Art and Entertainment

Finns are addicts of every kind of visual and performing art and entertainment, and visitors are spoiled for choice in terms of exhibitions, cultural events, musical shows and concerts. The fine and stylish Finnish taste for practical design and progressive architecture, together with an unequalled enthusiasm for sports, a feverish obsession with literature, and an appreciation of an exquisite national cuisine complete a uniquely complex and lively cultural picture.

Helsinki and Finland’s other towns and cities are well supplied with concert halls and theatres, while cinemas show the latest international movies in their original language with subtitles in Finnish and Swedish. Finns are keen dancers, and your dancing options range from traditional outdoor summer dances, sometimes in lakeside pavilions, to night clubs and discos. The musical spectrum is similarly broad, with world class classical and opera performances at one end to jazz and rock at the other. Neither is there a shortage of galleries and museums showcasing excellent Finnish and international visual arts.

Something for everyone - even gamblers, who now have Helsinki’s new Grand Casino at their service. Grand Casino in Fennia Block, Mikonkatu 9 in Helsinki, has several roulette and black jack tables, slot machines and other games. There is another casino at the Hotel Arkipelag in Mariehamn. Both casinos meet international requirements
